Learn to play music joyfully

Ash Tweet (he/him) is the founder and sole teacher (Voice, Piano, Guitar) at Tweet Music Lessons.

Ash is a working musician local to Seattle, who began teaching music lessons in 2021, at Sarah Tweet's voice studio in Gig Harbor before graduating from Cornish College of the Arts in 2023 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Since then, Ash has been teaching in the Seattle area, working with students of all ages, backgrounds, and styles.

Being the child of a voice teacher, Ash has a primary background in voice, singing in many settings across childhood - performing in musical theater, high school chamber jazz choir, and as part of a family band that performed at local events between 2015-2018. Picking up the guitar and piano came as an accompanying tool to singing, but soon became pursuits of their own.

Ash attended Central Washington University for two years before transferring to Cornish, during which he was immersed in a classically focused music program that asked students to build a very strong sense of musicianship, with music theory and ear training classes every morning. This gave Ash a strong foundation in music theory, before he transferred to Cornish in 2021 to join their musically diverse, composition-oriented program.

Since 2021, Ash has developed a teaching philosophy that is centered on affirming the student's needs and interests, aiming to create a lesson space that creates accessibility, and removes judgement wherever possible - allowing the student to grow at their own pace, with consistent support and new challenges. Lessons are a safe place to express and experiment.

Ash sees the ultimate goal of music lessons as building a lasting relationship to the student's instrument of choice, to see the relationship in a greater context of the student's connection with music, learning, and creativity. Rigor is part of this, and so is joy. It is also Ash's goal as a teacher to meet the expectations and objectives that guardians have for their children to participate in lessons, with input from the student.

Ash has experience working with neurodiverse students, and particularly enjoys helping each student embrace their unique qualities and interests. At the center of this practice is a core belief that patience and a willingness to help the student self-regulate while being conscious of their needs allows them to have greater capacity to learn and face challenges.

Lessons with Ash will always include music theory education, learning new pieces of music (student and teacher choice - often we alternate), ear training and rhythm exercises, and improvisation, songwriting, or music games.

Ash offers private lessons for Piano, Voice, Guitar, and Ukulele. All ages and styles of music welcome.

There are 3 modes of music lessons offered, all on a weekly basis:

In-Home: Lessons held in the student's home (limited to certain neighborhoods in Seattle)

In-Studio: Lessons held in Ash Tweet's studio in Capitol Hill

Online: Virtual lessons held over Facetime or Zoom
